Royal College Reviews

Reference: RDF2832-24 | Reviews from 2020-2021

Independent reviews of cardiology and spinal surgery services conducted by the Royal College of Physicians and Royal College of Surgeons. The Trust commissioned these reviews in 2020 and received final reports in 2021.

Trust response explaining the review process, outcomes, and governance oversight. The review found no immediate patient safety concerns but made 25 recommendations for service improvements, all of which have been completed.

Key Findings: The RCP reviewed 11 patient cases. Eight were managed in line with current best practice. For the remaining three cases, the review team did not believe earlier intervention would have impacted patient outcomes.

The Trust declined to publish full reports citing Section 40(2) (Personal Information) and Section 36(2) (Prejudicial to Effective Conduct of Public Affairs), but provided summaries.
